Visited Edinburgh for a mini break and this eatery was highly recommended online. We came mid-week early evening and it was fairly quiet so no wait time for a table. You certainly can tell the Canadian theme with flags all over the place Staff took our order fairly quick and the food didn't take long to arrive. Food was fairly priced and very nice. If I ever visited again I would certainly come here again.

We have been before several times. Food was amazing as ever, our server Megan was so attentive, welcoming and accommodating 👏🏻. The Maple Bacon Poutine chips are definitely a highlight. Thoroughly recommend for a delicious, reasonably priced and very filling meal.

I am a huge fan of the South Queensferry branch of Down The Hatch; the breakfast skillet is up there with one of my favourite dishes of all time and it always feels like a special place to go. Visiting the Edinburgh branch had been on my to do list for some time so when I got an email with a BOGOF offer on burgers, it was time to take the plunge. My friend and I arrived on Saturday evening, I had made a reservation and we were greeted my a friendly waitress at the entrance. The phone rang whilst she was looking up the booking and we said go ahead to answer, big mistake on our part as a large food order came in which took her attention away for a good 5 minutes. It was just odd that the other staff sitting around the bar area didn't seem to pick up on this as she was looking for their attention. Once we were shown to our seats, we picked our food/drinks and the waitress was helpuful in answering our questions about the food. The beer we got was fine, if a little crafty for our tastes. There were bottled beer options which we should have gone for. There was ice hocky showing on the big screen which was good fun to watch. A visit to the toilets were not the best, the stairs down to the lower level smelled bad and it felt like entering the scene of a horror movie. Lots of open doors, creepy lighting and a questionable aroma. Back upstairs, our food was served. In fairness, the burgers was good - quality ingredients used and a good size. My burger had a bit of a chilli kick to it but I perhaps didn't spot this on the menu. The chips I had with it looked anemic, they were supposed to be skin on seasoned fries but were more like school canteen rejects. The macaroni cheese was an absolute disgrace, it had very little sauce and no flavour (see photos for evidence). We did get a refund on the fries but didn't mention about the macaroni, you never want to be 'that guy'. We also missed out on the BOGOF offer as my friend went for a kids burger, that was our mistake.. oops.. On reflection, it really wasn't a great experience and I would be hesitant to return. There is so much scope for improvement which I do hope the business addresses. The bar area is also wasted, it just seems to be a hang out area for the staff but would make a lively fun area with music playing at a decent level, the lighting dimmed and more of a welcoming feel. It was however the food and the toilet area that did the real damage for me. I shall return to the SQ branch soon but it is a hard pass on the Edinburgh one for me now.

Great place, Montreal Cheesesteak, Poutine and Wings were all excellent, great range of drinks and they show ice hockey! Literally what more could you want. Henry was super helpful too and happy to help with anything! Will definitely be back next time I'm up in Edinburgh

Really nice place, with a clear Canadian vibe :)) The poutine with haggis was tasty, the wings were good, lots of meat and great sauces. A perfect spot to spend an evening with family or friends!
